I sonetti sono relativi
"...all'armata piemontese accampata sul Raus, e colli vicini per la rotta data ai francesi il 12 giugno 1793...sul motto del generale Kellermann...sul Custine general francese...la statua sognata dal Nabucco...la libertà francese...".
Polemico è l'atteggiamento nei confronti dei francesi occupanti:
"...grida ognun Libertà: ma ravvisai,
ch'essa consiste sol nel ferro, e 'l fuoco...".
